VSL SiloLogistics plays other company sides on Feyenoord pitch.
On 2 June, a VSL SiloLogistics team participated in the Havencup 2010 soccer tournament in and around the Feyenoord Kuip. All sun-drenched day long, some 250 players competed in twenty company teams for Greater Rotterdam's most coveted inter-company soccer trophy. This involved playing on the main Feyenoord pitch and at 'Varkenoord', the training complex of this top Rotterdam football club.
The VSL side included staff and business relations such as supplier and customer representatives. VSL was the only team able to draw on international business relations. Christian Tamcke and Claus Hartmann of Tamcke came from Hamburg, and Daniel Hennig of INEOS from Cologne. DuPont contributed René Schmidt and Bamberger Polymers sent Mark van Ginneken.
The excellent organization of the Havencup tournament gave the participating teams a fun and relaxing soccer meeting, and much more. There was entertainment galore, the kids were invited to attend a professional football clinic, and people obviously used this opportunity to catch up with colleagues and/or friends.
The result was a bit disappointing for VSL SiloLogistics, first time Havencup participant. The first confrontation was a win, followed however in the knock-out phase by two unfortunate defeats (both suffered on the main pitch) and a draw. The pressure of playing on 'hallowed ground' proved too strong with also the third match played in De Kuip being lost, but the play-off for 15th place was won at Varkenoord.
'Kein problem, es war toll heute!', Christian said later at the buffet, a sentiment shared by all Havencup 2010 participants.
