Valuable visit VSL to Transport Logistic 2011.
Joined by recently appointed CEO Pieter de Graeff, Wouter van der Sanden, Site Manager of VSL SiloLogistics in Oss visited in May the bi-annual 'Transport Logistic' Trade Fair in Munich. Whereas two years ago VSL participated in the Rotterdam Port Promotion Council stand, now VSL attended not as a participant but as a visitor. 'A sound choice', was Wouter’s subsequent comment.
'We had made arrangements to meet with many key business relations. For Pieter and for myself this Trade Fair was the perfect venue to meet people in a short time and in one spot. Plus we encountered people from Pieter’s network including someone he knew from BASF, a company that may prove to be quite important for VSL. This visit was also very valuable in terms of Business Development initiatives. The encounters with people and the things you see provide insight into the viability of new, innovative projects.'
'Having our own stand would have had less of an impact for various reasons. It struck me for instance that this edition of the Trade Fair had a fairly strong German orientation. Moreover many of our accounts and potential new accounts did not attend. The focus was more on purchasing than on sales, and then mainly on purchasing of transport. Many 'road transport parties' were represented whereas what we aim to convey to potential accounts is our storage expertise. This Trade Fair was not about that.'
'In Munich we spoke with decision-makers at Dow and Invista, as well as with representatives of companies that work with us as subcontractors such as Van den Bosch transports. Overall we had two busy and valuable days in Bavaria along with 51,000 other visitors from 134 countries.'
