Terneuzen: modern and efficient.
The public terminal of VSL SiloLogistics in Terneuzen is the youngest, but also the largest offspring of the VSL family. It all started in 2003 when it was decided to heavily invest in the relationship with the customer DOW. In four months time on the "Valuepark Terneuzen" site there grew a hypermodern silo-park with a warehouse and an enormous storage capacity on the surrounding terrain. From that moment on between 60 & 70 colleagues have worked in a continuous shift roster with LDPE and LLDPE plastic granulates in a variety of qualities.
One of them is Site Manager Bas Schuurmans, who summarises the core activities: ‘With bulk tankers we pick up the granulate at DOW, these are then transferred to one of the 32 Silo's (each with a capacity of 650m3). Sometimes, at a later date they are again shipped out in bulk tankers, but mostly we pack the granulate in 25kg bags and ship them out on sealed pallets for DOW and her customers. The complete bagging process, from A to Z, takes place automatically and with super efficiency at Terneuzen. With our two bagging lines we process 4000 bags per hour, in other words 100'000kg. In order to achieve this, the loading and unloading of bulk trucks has to keep up and we process more than 100 trucks per day, who can match that?' Bas has been active at the site at Terneuzen from the very beginning. ‘I used to work at the site in Nuth, but I couldn't let this chance pass by. From the very first drawings I have been active in this adventure; I've already experienced several expansions and I am now working on a request for extra silo's to be erected.
‘The location at Valuepark Terneuzen is ideal in all aspects. It lies strategically advantageous on the Westerschelde, between the harbours of Rotterdam and Antwerp. It is perfectly accessible via road, rail and waterway and there is plenty of room for expansion and new partners. Also important: we have the luxury of a stable organisation with little turnover of staff. We are able to maintain the calm in these turbulent times. Is that down to the character of the "Zeeuw" (inhabitant of Zeeland)? Or is it because we're always a little "further from the fire"? Either way, in combination with the modern facilities it means that it's a pleasure to work here! For DOW, but also for other customers that are not related to DOW. Since, as I said earlier, we have a public terminal, other customers are very welcome in Terneuzen.' Would you like to know more about our logistic services at offer in Terneuzen?
