New partnerships flourish.
Spring is here at last, and VSL SiloLogistics appears to be ‘budding' too. Perhaps not in every segment - economic recovery still being tentative - but where VSL SiloLogistics gets a chance to show its added-value capabilities, increasingly customers or potential customers say: 'We have really got a taste for it now!'
A few months ago, INEOS in Köln for instance started using people and facilities of VSL in Nuth, in the South of Limburg, deploying this site as a 'forward stock location'. In no time, VSL and INEOS drivers were working as partners, efficiently shuttling between Köln and Nuth. The first collaborative steps between VSL and INEOS (in Lillo, Belgium) started a year ago and since then not a day has passed that the two companies did not collaborate and/or communicate about expanding this collaboration.
Another relatively new working relationship has been with another chemicals giant, Reliance Industries of India. At new year's the first contract was signed providing work for the VSL site in Oss, and now the new partners are discussing how to optimize container traffic to Central and South America and the potential role of VSL sites and/or the VSPS joint venture with Steinweg.
In exploratory meetings with INEOS and Reliance, as well as with its other customers and potential customers, VSL favors the customer driven approach. Commercial Director Jos Müller: 'We empathize, offering suggestions and making recommendations. We will work with the partner simulating an entire supply chain and making time and cost calculations for various scenarios and/or routes. This may not result in us getting the business in the short term, or we might decide we do not even want it. Short term scoring, no matter how appealing at times, we feel is subordinate to building and expanding solid, long term relationships with our customers.'
