Logistic Service Providers continue to be important for shippers.
Late September, Capgemini published the results of its 15th (annual) study of global logistic service providers. This report shows that Logistic Service Providers (LSP's) continue to add significant strategic and operational value for shippers worldwide.
An average of 11 percent of company revenues is spent on logistics, and an average of 42 percent of that they spend on outsourcing their logistics. Though this is down from previous years, with funds allocated reduced as well, 65 percent of shippers state that as a percentage of total logistic services they opted more frequently for outsourcing.
The 2010 study is based on some 1,900 answers from shippers and LSP's in North America, Europe, Asia/Pacific and Latin America, and provides insights specifically into the Life Sciences and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sectors. The results show improved relations between shippers and their LSP's: 89 percent of shippers define relations as successful, and 68 percent state that LSP's help realize new and innovative ways of improving the activities. Yet shippers are still outsourcing mainly transactional, operational and repetitive activities while showing less interest in the more advanced services increasingly being provided by LSP's.
