Lean & Mean in Nuth.
VSL SiloLogistics started her operation in Nuth, near the industrial terrain Chemelot in South Limburg more than 20 years ago. VSL was then VOS and Chemelot was 100% owned by the chemical giant DSM. In 2002 DSM sold her petrochemical branch to the Saudi Arabian company Sabic, after which other companies from that branch were attracted. Roger Driessen saw it all take place. In 1990 Roger started as "General Operational Employee" (I've done everything you can imagine here). Now as part of the VSL Silologistics team he is Site Manager and responsible for the complete operation in Nuth.
From day 1, DSM and Sabic have been our most important customers. A substantial part of their petrochemical bulk powders are stored, packed and transported by us. When I started we had 44 silo's for storage and shipping, there are now 84. We have been able to grow considerably together with our customers! These days we do for instance a lot with raw materials for Dyneema®, a very strong polyethylene fibre that has been designed and developed by DSM and which for instance is used in shipping and fishing industries.
The growth in Nuth has taken place together with further professionalising of the organisation. "Quality always comes first here, only then can you structurally offer an Optimum and Efficient roll in the delivery chains of your customer and by doing this, be a real partner to them." This means that the services we offer have had to expand, amongst others a tank & truck cleaning facility, but also that we have become "lean & mean". You won't find any excessive ballast for which our customer rather wouldn't pay. Our core team is small but effective, and as required we have access to several temporary staff, this we can cope with the peaks and troughs with our customers.
"Of course there are occasions when it gets too busy, or not busy enough. That is when we as team or together with the customer have to face the challenge. Either way, the problem shall be solved, we in Nuth will bet on it! Our surroundings value this approach apparently; Once on board customers and colleagues alike rarely disembark!"
