EPCA Meeting Berlin aims at sustainable development.
From 3 to 7 October last, the 43rd annual meeting of the European Petrochemical Association (EPCA) was held in Berlin. The subject was Turbulent Times for Chemicals: Coping with Challenges through Sustainable Development. First-class speakers like Joschka Fisher, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, and Condoleeza Rice, Secretary of State in the Bush Administration, indicated in speeches and panel discussions how sustainable components could be integrated structurally into logistic chains. Not because sustainable development is 'in', but because it is a pure necessity for companies and sectors in order to be able to survive.
Before and after the sessions with important speakers there were many opportunities for networking. The VSL SiloLogistics' top people also got involved in it in Berlin, together with some 2000 managers from other (petro)chemical companies and logistics service providers from all over the world. 'Apart from the informative programme, in which attention was mainly focused on sustainable supply chain management, it was obviously a unique opportunity to establish new contacts and broaden existing ones', says Jos Müller, CCO at VSL SiloLogistics. 'Barely a year after our start as VSL SiloLogistics, we are well known, we noticed during our conversations. At night, in my hotel room, I was reviewing all those new leads and, even making offers .., that was a great feeling!' The report of the EPCA Meeting 2009 will be available (soon) via the website www.epca.be.
