Cabinet: More cooperation Rotterdam harbour and other logistic junctions.
'In order to ensure our future international competitiveness, The Netherlands should stimulate cooperation between Mainport Rotterdam and other international harbours & logistic hubs. Harbours and hubs will, through specialisation, be able to supplement each other. Together with efficient use of the available space and road, rail and waterway networks, future growth can be absorbed. Through this The Netherlands can keep and reinforce its distribution function.
This is even more important because of the expected strong growth in global business streams up to 2040. The competition between seaports in Europe shall increase strongly and customers shall require more and more from these logistic harbours.' This vision, of Ministers Van der Hoeven (EZ), Eurlings (VenW) and Cramer (VROM) was taken from "Economic vision in the long term of Mainport Rotterdam: On the way to Mainport Network Netherland", that was sent to the Parliament this summer.
The Cabinet wants to strengthen the position of Mainport Rotterdam by setting up cooperation with other seaports (Amsterdam, Zeeland, Moerdijk & Groningen) and also inland ports, logistic hubs and industrial centres on and along the hinterland connections. With this cooperation "Mainport Network Netherland" should commence. In this way The Netherlands can, in the future, be ensured of a large amount of top quality international routes to support the international competitiveness of Dutch businesses and business climate. It's about using all strengths of all participants in the network and to evoke specialisation. Cross fertilisation of ports and hubs and a joint logistic hitting power in global chains, is a must.
This is also valid for the better use of the existing infrastructure and reduction of environmental pressure. A growth that is more climate neutral, can be achieved by logistic innovation, collection and storage of C02 and the increase of efficiency by using all industrial excesses of heat, cold and waste. The cabinet also wants the chemical / energy sectors to make the transition to sustainable energy sources. The future Mainport Network Netherland must, in 2040, be the home of the largest "bio-based" energy and chemical cluster in Europe. That means more added value, less C02 emissions and more assurance of energy in The Netherlands.
